John Yoyogi Fortes

Artist Statement

Recently featured in the Museum of the African Diaspora's show Decoding Identity: I Do It for My People, the art of John Yoyogi Fortes reads like a subconscious amalgam of popular imagery and graffiti art.

Fortes has received grants from the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission, the California Arts Council, and the Joan Mitchell Foundation. This year, his work was selected to be included in the Artrain USA National Touring Exhibition on American Diversity.
