Nike Schroeder

Nike Schroeder

city fold

Nike Schroeder has developed her style over the years, first in Berlin and more recently in Los Angeles where she is now based. Her current work includes mixed media with machine embroidery where the stitch is an extension of the paintbrush. She also creates pieces using hanging rayon threads that invite the viewer to interact with subtle color gradations.

City fold marks her first solo exhibition with Jack Fischer Gallery. This new body of work is an aesthetic exploration and interpretation of the urban landscape of Downtown Los Angeles, visualized through painted and abstracted shapes and folds. Taking a minimalist approach, the work intends to coax the viewer into a world of layered forms reflecting the artist’s nuanced observation of urban moments that often go unnoticed.

Schroeder earned her BA in Art Therapy/Fine Arts at the University of Applied Sciences in Otterberg before moving to Los Angeles in 2012. She has had solo exhibitions at Walter Maciel Gallery, a site-specific installation at the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, CA, and in Germany. Schroeder’s work has been mentioned in the SF Chronicle, T Magazine and Domino Magazine featuring designer Emily Henderson’s home amongst others. She has been commissioned for numerous private collections and by Germany’s largest textile trade fair Munich Fabric Start. Schroeder has participated as an artist in residence at the Izyur Festival in Kudymkar, Russia.
